We refer to it as the small print that many people hardly see or think about until trouble comes calling. The small technicalities that most car owners are completely unaware of until that incident or accident happens and the insurance company refuses to pay.
A very good example of instances where you could be in for a nasty surprise is where most car insurance companies do not cover certain members of your family driving your car. That means if anything happens when they are behind the wheel, the insurance company has a full right not to be responsible in any way. Just imagine that, a loved member of your family behind the wheel of your car and yet they are not covered. While it is true that as long as a person has permission to use your car, they will be covered by your car insurance policy, there are certain exceptions. For instance somebody in your household who is not listed with the insurance company will not be covered, even if you give them your permission to drive your car. When taking out your insurance for your car, you will usually be asked to list everybody in your household who has a driving license. So if your girl friend moves in and uses your car with your permission but is not listed with the insurance company then she is a risk that the insurance company will not accept on that technicality. Yet if she lives somewhere else and borrows your car with permission, then she will be fully covered. This is the small print car owners really need to pay attention to and to also understand very well so as to avoid nasty surprises later. This is yet another good reason for every car owner to take the time to slowly read through the small print in insurance policies and ensure that they understand everything.
